Working at Growing Venture Solutions

Let's say that you live in or near Denver/New York and you have one or more of the following skills:

  • You enjoy creating cross-browser, standards-compliant, bombproof CSS/XHTML
  • You enjoy designing and testing user interface/interaction design/information architecture
  • You are turned on by LAMP
  • You put the Rich in Internet Applications

And, that you possess all of these values:

  • The belief that we must be the change we hope to see in the world
  • A love for learning, experimenting, and exploring
  • A dedication to "the community" being both the local physical community and open source software communities

What It's Like Working with Growing Venture Solutions

GVS is a boutique that aims to incorporate many of the common Open Source community values into the way that we run our company. It is a mix between being a freelancer and being an employee. Here are some important characteristics of working for GVS - both positive and negative.

  • Good pay
  • Interesting jobs - tier 1 publishing companies, bleeding edge technology, social justice organizations
  • Reimbursement for all travel (and the opportunity to travel)
  • 20% of your time is for working on community projects or honing your skill set
  • Trips to Drupalcon and Drupalcamps and Code Sprints (and other conferences if they're appropriate)
  • Company outings once a quarter
  • Conference attendance and lodging paid
  • Really comfortable chairs and good coffee
  • Work from your preferred location (office, home, coffee shop, mountain side)
  • Our team decides on the projects we work on - which clients, which community projects, which side projects
  • Yeah, "Our team" - company control is a meritocracy where everyone has a path towards equity ownership
  • We are flexible. That means occasionally stopping work early if the snow conditions are really good and also occasionally taking calls and working outside of "normal" hours.
  • Startups are always a bit riskier than a large company, and this startup requires active participation.
  • We're small. You'll have to take on many roles and responsibilities. If you find yourself frequently thinking "that's not my job" this is the wrong company.
