Greg Knaddison - Chief Solver
I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and quickly moved back to lovely Colorado. After doing database analysis and intranet development projects for Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers I moved to a boutique software firm in the same field.
That mix of experience -- highly organized and professional experience in the consulting world to a more formal software development startup in Broomfield -- has provided me with a broad background and experience in the many varied stages of software creation and implementation. At the same time, my personal technology interest in Open Source software has grown from a single home Linux box to the use and involvement in a number of Open Source projects.
In 2005 I got involved in my neighborhood organization and, being technically inclined, became the webmaster. The neighborhood site, while pretty, was a bit stale. I began looking for solutions that would allow multiple people to edit and maintain the site so the job could be distributed among community members. I had heard of Drupal from the Spread Firefox site and DeanSpace. I had experience with PHP and other Content Management Systems and, after some careful research, started using Drupal. Turns out, it's a pretty good piece of software and is surrounded by a strong and growing user and consulting community.
After getting a few interested leads, I decided to leave a desk job at a large telecommunications provider and join the growing world of Drupal Consultants.
Involvement in Drupal Project
I started using Drupal almost 3 years ago. Since then I've grown more and more involved.
You're here because you've already decided Drupal is the right tool for you. Now, how can you make sure that it will remain that way? One of the best ways is to support companies and developers who "give back" to the project. Here are a few ways I support the Drupal project to make sure it continues to rock:
- modules I work on
- Volunteer time and advice as a member of the Drupal Association General Assembly
- Founded and coordinate the Denver/Boulder Drupal User Group
- Present about Drupal to various groups (Colorado Linux Users and Enthusiasts and the CU Denver Association for Computing Machinery
- Work on documentation, discuss ideas on mailing lists, provide help to the infrastructure team, drupal.org site maintainers, the Drupal security team.
DrupalDashboard.com - Review every new module and change to the Drupal code base highlighting the most important items. Keeps me on top of changes to Drupal and assists others in the community.
"Growing" Growing Venture Solutions
In the past, I have utilized the help of specialized contractors on certain projects for both bandwidth and specific skills. Going forward, I plan to expand the company to include a very select group of partners who share a similar passion for Open Source web development.
